Editing and Self-Proclaiming

The art of writing is rewriting and the art of success is marketing. I am doing both. Tweaking, editing the children’s book is in progress. A few spots in the text are weak either as rhymes or as transitions in the story. I am testing out the written part alone on uninitiated persons who will be harshly honest. Made up words, use of uncommon words, the pacing of the read-aloud rhymes, and other details I should pay attention to, perhaps ironing out, before I begin marketing, joining, and networking in the quest to be published.

Which takes me to marketing.  I don’t want to market, to self proclaim, to constantly tout my work - but I don’t want my work to remain in my notebooks, on my walls alone, or in the equivalent of my messy closet. This website is but a first step, a passive place for others to land. Art is to be shared, maybe nice to have someone pay for, but mainly to share. Art is a window, a perspective, a way to look.

So this week, I am researching groups to join and tweaking the book. I am collecting names of people to contact for networking. I am submitting some pieces to exhibit. Not as enthralling as doing the artwork or working the first time through on the children’s book text, but necessary to the sharing that I really want to do.
